Description: HOPF 4/4 Full Size Violin with Theodore Boyd 1960 Repair Tag Antique Vtg There are 188 photos of the item below. ---The photos load incrementally below depending on your connection, please allow a few seconds for the photos to appear --- Overall length is 23-3/8" (14-1/8" body). --- Inside the body is a paper label from a Theodore W Boyd, the label indicates "Repaired" and is hand dated 5-12, 1960 in Dixon Illinois. --- There is a bulge on the top side to the left of the neck with some separation on that back edge (it's visible from the front, you can see how that edge bulges out to the edge of the back plate). --- NOTE also the chipped back bottom "corner point". --- Also NOTE that the included bow has a HOLE drilled through it in the area just where that plastic wrap ends (I've never seen that before on a bow so I don't know why it would have been done). The bow is branded Herold Jaeger and is also stamped Germany. The bow measures 29-1/4" overall (to the end of the metal adjusting knob. The bow has an octagonal shape along the length of the bow. --- I don't know the date or time period of the violin, I have read that the Hopf name was used later in factory made violins. There is a embossed stamp top back of the body HOPF and a HOPF black ink stamp inside the body near the repair label (there is something scratched above the HOPF back body stamp, it looks like a number, I have no idea of the significance. --- The fingerboard shows a lot of finish wear/loss. If you look at the sides of the seam between the fingerboard and neck you can see what looks like some gaps filled in. Also note the nut has multiple grooves cut, so looks modified. --- The scroll looks slightly skewed but the neck doesn't strike me as warped or necessarily twisted (I've seen that a lot before but also I've seen how the scroll is not perfectly aligned, I don't know if that is naturally occurring or was just a result of how it was carved originally). --- The tailpiece peg looks skewed a little, I tried to wiggle it out but I can't get it to start to loosen (just applying some light finger pressure it feels tight so I don't want to play around with it, I wanted to try to take photos of the interior from that peg hole). --- There is a sound post installed. --- The included bridge is stamped Czechoslovakia. --- This had came from a local estate and was purchased by another person, I don't have any information on the history. When I got it the strings had been loosened up with the bridge stored in the case, it looked like the strings were loosened a long time ago and that it hadn't been touched in some time. The bow needs to be re-strung etc (have the hair replaced). I've shipped a lot of violins over the years so I take a lot of extra care with the packing. --- See photos for condition details. --- Will be well packed --- See shipping options above--- Payment expected within 3 days of purchase (contact me if you need more time). --- The item description is guaranteed to be accurate but all items are sold as-is unless otherwise stated.--- I don't have a way to arrange for a local pick-up of this item, I'm sorry for the inconvenience
