Description: This listing is for an HO Scale Fire Department Hose reel wagon. The painted version pictured is N scale. The dimensions are 1.86in/47.4mm long, 1.05in/26.7mm wide and 1.32in/33.5mm high. Someone contacted me about older apparatus, check out my other auctions cause I'm putting out a bunch of new older pieces going back to horse drawn. I'm launching a series of horse drawn American fire apparatus. (Horses not included) The units cover horse drawn up through early motorization. If you're modeling early 20th Century these will be a must for protecting you layout. Many of these served through WW2 due to shortages. Due to changes in firefighting technology some didn't make it very far into the motorized era. These units will look great as a flat car load, sitting in a fire station, parade or in some cases around a larger business. Fire department hose reels date back to the earliest days of organized fire fighting . They were used to carry hose to get water from a water source onto a fire. The source could be a hydrant or a hand or steam pumper. These were usually light weight and could be hauled by the fire crew or horse drawn. In addition to hose, they would carry basic tools like hydrant and hose wrenches. Some towns with a municipal water system might only have hose reels for fire protection. Some of these have very ornate paint jobs reflecting the pride of the volunteer fire companies that operated them. As firefighting became motorized the dedicated hose reel wagon become obsolete as all of the gear carried on the hose reel could be incorporated to the functions of a motorized fire engine.
