Description: The Convair line started with the CV-240 and was originally thought of as a replacement of the Douglas DC-3. It was a more modern design with cabin pressurization. The model 240 was followed by the Model 340, which had a longer fuselage, longer wingspan, and more powerful engines. The 340 first flew in October of 1951. In 1954, in an attempt to compete with turboprop powered airliners such as the Vickers Viscount, Convair produced the Model 440 Metropolitan. The 440 had more streamlined cowlings, new engine exhausts, and better cabin soundproofing. Braniff International Airlines was a major American Airline founded in 1934 and began operations in May of 1928. The airline operated as Braniff International Airways from 1948 to 1965. The name changed to Braniff International from 1965 until the airline ceased operation in 1982. In 1983 former Braniff pilots, flight attendant, mechanics and other personnel formed Sun Country Airlines based out of the Minneapolis/St.Paul Minnesota International Airport. Sun Country continues to provide service today. Continental had 18 Convairs in service from 1948 to 1959. Originally, the airline had thirty-six Convair 240's, 340's and 440's, with twenty-six of these CV-340's. This Convair 340 with registration number N3406 was originally delivered to Braniff on 26 July 1952. It provided service with Braniff until April of 1964, when it was purchased by Caribbean Atlantic Airlines in May of 1966. It flew with Caribbean Atlantic until it was ultimately written off and scrapped (how very sad). This 1:200 scale Herpa Models diecast reproduction of Braniff''s Convair 340 is a highly detailed, out of production and difficult to find model. It comes with the following:Chrome fuselage undersideChrome wingsRotating propellersDetailed landing gear with rolling rubber tires Highly detailed accurate Braniff livery of the 1950's and 1960's Display stand. All sales are final. Shipping to the USA only. NOTE 1: This model has been boxed on the shelf for some time and was only taken out of the box for photographing purposes to better show the model's high quality. This is a rare historic aircraft model. This is the only one I could locate on an internet search. All the sites that used to carry it have it listed as discontinued and out of stock. This could make this a one-of-a-kind model. This will be a very rare addition to any prop lover's collection, or any aviation enthusiat's collection. This is the only one available. NOTE 2: If you lookat the photograph of the front view of this model, you will notice one of the tires on the main landing gear is missing. I ordered that new landing gear from the manufacturer and am including it with this model. I did not want to attempt installing the new gear, and will leave it up to the purchaser.
