View of the Cannon Street Railway Bridge seen across Thames, steam trains on the bridge and in the Cannon Street Station on the left bank, a man sitting in the right foreground on the right bank, another man standing on barge below. Drypoint, printed in dark brown ink, with surface tone. Exact same print is in the BRITISH MUSEUM collection (donated by the artist). Original frame and mount ,with dealer label on reverse: HAY & LYALL. CARVERS & GILDERS TO H.M. THE KING. Artist Biography: Genre, portrait painter, mezzotint, aquatint engraver and etcher of original and reproductive plates, with a great reputation in his own lifetime. Brother of R.W.Macbeth (qv). Born at Newbury, Berkshire. Studied in Edinburgh; he moved to London as a portrait painter; changed his name from his devotion to the paintings of Raeburn after whom he often etched. Exhibited at the RA from 1881 to 1904.
