Description: An exceptional terra cotta bust produced at Aluminia, a Danish factory established in Copenhagen in 1863, later becoming Royal Copenhagen, "Lizzie" by Johannes Hedegaard (1915-1999). This female bust features elements of Hedegaard's famous forms and color combinations with a serene face and expression. An important piece of mid-century art. Hedegaard, a Danish ceramist and sculptor, Hedegaard trained as a sculptor at the Royal Copenhagen Factory 1930-1935 and at the same time studied at the Academy of Fine Art in Copenhagen. He worked for Royal Copenhagen from 1948-1966 and became known for his ceramic works and relief works for both Royal Copenhagen and from his own studio.
