Description: This handmade vintage Turkish runner has an allover repeating intricate paisley (known as boteh, an ancient tribal precursor to the paisley) design. It is a true vintage tribal piece, hand-knotted in the 1960s. Each individual paisley, or boteh, is made up of tiny knots of silver, dark plum, black, turquoise and gray details that become more apparent as you get closer to the rug, much like a pointillist painting. The pink coral background is a beautiful color that appears watermelon in the light. The border is particularly striking and intriguing - a bone colored frame of intricate pink, blue and dark plum and black geometric details that almost resemble hieroglyphics, a hallmark of rugs from this region. This is surrounded by pink rows with a repeating wave-like motif. All colors are made from only vegetable and other natural dyes. This runner has a thin even pile that is sturdy enough for high traffic and will continue to last for generations. The runner has some imperfections but it is perfectly intact. There is abrash, or natural dye variation on one end of the runner, a common phenomenon with handmade vintage rugs that use natural dyes. There are also a few minor imperfections in the pattern on that same side (see last photos). These slight irregularities add to the authentic one of a kind nature of the runner, and also make it a great price.
