You will also be able to spot forgeries and marriages of old shades to bases because some of these catalogs are mixed with the same era lamp parts and items :-) Almost comical to see your friends signed HANDEL table lamp in a catalog as a simple every day hanging lamp of the era, and then be able to take note of the heat cap and resting area where it has been cunningly altered!
