Description: Gulf Coast Lupine Lupinus westianus15 Seeds We were thrilled to find a huge area of Lupine growing on the new 10 acre farm addition of the main farm. In the deep Winter when the forest floor was covered in brown, these little green plants started popping up! "I wonder what that is....?" Papa said. Soon we will see!! The plant grew and grew, looked super happy for the middle of the woods. Then finally in Spring they all bloomed - It's Lupine!! We grabbed our cameras and all but layed down on the forest floor to get a few great shots. Bees and butterflies were all over the patches. We hadn't seen any bees or butterflies anywhere else. We knew the Lupine were growing on our main farm as well as 3 mini-farms. Well, little did we know, they were different! The main farm has Skyblue Lupine growing while the mini-farms have Gulf Coast Lupine. While the flowers and leaves look very similar, the seed pods are totally different. Skyblue Lupine has 5-7 seeds per pod and seeds were ready in May. Gulf Coast Lupine only has 2-3 seeds per pod and seeds were ready by June. We hope to get better photos of these beautiful plants blooming in the Spring. Now that we know they are different!
