Description: A group of men posing on the deck of the Steam Tanker Paula - one with an accordian, and a few with hats and attire suggesting they may be part of the ship's crew. An amazing and unique piece of Maritime and social history. The life-rings in shot read "Paula - Hamburg" and the reverse is credited to "W G Matthews - Marine Artist - 47 North 11th Street, Philadelphia, PA". This website (https://www.aukevisser.nl/german/id129.htm) informs that the ship was sold to the German-American Petroleum Co. in 1894, and the ship was later sold and renamed in 1914. This timeline along with the other info dates the image pretty reliably to somewhere between 1894-1914, and presumably taken somewhere on the USA's North East Coast.Good condition - a very rough cut to the bottom of the mount (presumably to make it fit a frame at some point) and some wear to the mount corners/edges. The photo itself iis in very good condition. See photos for details. UK delivery, or collection in person from Accrington, Lancashire. Item will be well packed to keep it safe and secure.
