Description: Here is a nice crystal of, I think a mix of various garnet varieties, specifically Andradite and Grossular, which have become known from the Kayes gregion in Mali. this is approximately the same region which has produced the well known mixes of Prehnite with Epidote as well... Many of the garnets from this region can reach large size, and often show very strong internal zoning. In the beginning, locals would shatter nice crystals, just to get to green transparent part in the rind section of crystals, to try cut as gemstones. Here is a nice crystal which has been left untouched, really showing the zoning well, with in this case a yellowish outer zone, and a dark brown, almost black inner core. Nice crystal, with an interesting color tone, somewhere between yellow and green. This crystal is 143 grams in weight, or 5 oz. The size is 1.6inch x 1.5inch x 1.5 inch.
