Wow, what a Huge ! Fall Tour run. I mean we are talking about Eighteen ( 18 ) Shows in just Three-Weeks !!! Hey, our heroes were no spring-chickens here in '91 - but you would never-ever know it ... as they could still bring the Live HEAT !!! Night after night ... & Show after show. But that sure is a lot of playing, and I don't even care if you are Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga in your 20's !!? - Ha ! But boy, did the Band ever deliver - all-throughout this Historic ! '91 Dead-run. Just like the previous Summer Tour, they were also energized by Bruce Hornsby - thus creating the G.D. " Strength-In-Numbers ! " format, with two Keys players, and now Seven ! Members of the Band in total. This Dick's Picks # 17 selection captures the band in tightly rocking form where some big musical payoffs occur, as chances are generously taken. This was the ' middle ' night of three Shows on the back end of a 6-pack of Shows Gracing ! Beantown !! - and the Good Ol' Garden !!! The band is Feisty ! - communicating with excellence - and I can easily see why Mr. Latvala ! picked this specific stand-out Hot-Night ! from this run to feature in his " Dick's Picks ! " Series. The " Help > Slipknot ! > Fire Night " from 9/20/91 ( 1st Night - Boston ) would be the only one that might compete, but I think it lacks toe-to-toe with this 9/25/91 night on pure song-by-song consistency. The string players really find the grooves on this night, throughout. Not only does the Help > Slip ! > Franklin's meet the call of the starting gun, but the 1st set is " on-a-dime " - and especially the Walkin' Blues & Music Never Stopped. But, the real mustard on the ' Garden-Dog ' comes during the 2nd Set ! A Deep & Spacey ! Playing in the Band sandwich - that finds a sweetly woven That Would Be Something ( McCartney tune ! ), in there along with Terrapin and even Drums / Space too !! Just before a Throwin' > N.F.A. looks to be walk-off from a decibel standpoint alone, but then the lucky Boston Dead Fans get The-Quinn !!! You know ... the ' Mighty ! ' one. Mighty like the Good Ol' Boston Garden just a few years before they " Tore This Old Building Down !!! ". What a Run ! What a Stellar !! run. -- Enjoy !!!!!
