Description: This is an early German Navy "6 ZERSTORER 6" Cap Tally (Reichsmarine/Kriegsmarine Mutzenband "6 ZERSTORER 6"). It is a Destroyer 6 (Zerstorer 6) ribbon, constructed of black rayon, the exterior bearing a machine-embroidered gold bullion wire inscription of "6 ZERSTORER 6." The tally is unmarked and measures 32 mm (w) by 1500 mm (l), and in near extremely fine condition. NOTE: During the Imperial German Navy, the Reichsmarine and the early Third Reich era these Donald Duck style sailor's caps were issued with a named camp tally to identify the ship, flotilla, or land unit the individual was serving with. One November 1st 1938 the Navy mobilization order introduced the "Kriegsmarine" cap tally to replace the named cap tallies as a security measure in case of active mobilization. Personnel who had no possible contact with the outside world retained the privilege to wear the named tallies until mid-1940's when additional orders restricted wear of all named cap tallies including personnel of the NCO's Preparatory Schools. Originally the script of the cap tally was worked in gilt wire, but due to the potential discoloration of the wire regulations of October 29th 1936 dictated that the manufacture of the gilt script on the cap tallies was to be discontinued and replaced with golden yellow celleon threads, although the directive was not strictly adhered to. NOTE: These are all pieces from my 30 year personal collection of WW2 Militaria that I am now liquidating. They are all authentic unless otherwise noted in the description.
