The Georgia Southwestern & Gulf Railroad was incorporated in Georgia on July 24, 1906, to construct and operate a railroad from Dawson and Albany, GA to some point of the Gulf of Mexico. The date of organization was September 26, 1906. On February 14, 1910, the Georgia Southwestern & Gulf purchased the entire capital stock of the Albany & Northern Railway and began operating it on February 15, 1910 under lease. The Georgia Southwestern & Gulf operated the Albany & Northern for 32 years, until July 1942, when the company was dissolved and the lease on the Albany & Northern cancelled. At that time the road was taken over by C. W. Pidcock, of Moultrie, GA and operated again as the Albany & Northern Railway.
