Description: Roman CoinAppears to be Gallienus with neck beard on face side.Reverse side has Centaur walking left holding globe and trophy. Circa 253-268Bronze, about 3/4" in diameter We acquired this at an estate sale in the Los Angeles area. Interestingly the old business card in a bag with the coin said "285 AD Diocletian Last persecution of Christians". However, under a magnifying class it appears to be Gallienus' face and lettering. And the reverse side is a Centaur. The coin looks more like a Gallienus coin than Diocletian. It is also possible this card originally went with a different coin. I don't think the name on the reverse of the business card is still in business, but I will include the card as the original owner had the two together in a bag. It makes me think how difficult collectors had it before today's internet to scour books and try to find comparative examples to identify coins. Either way this coin is a neat bit of history which has somehow made its way here to Los Angeles over the past almost 2,000 years! Used, as-is. Worn and with dirt and corrosion/oxidation. Face and reverse can be viewed as well as some lettering. Coin may appear slightly different after wetting or being wiped. See attached pictures.
