F.W.H.Myers (1843-1901), poet and essayist, joint founder of the Society for Psychical Research (1882), coined the word “telepathy”. Myers' work on psychical research and his ideas about a "subliminal self" were influential in his time. Myers was the co-author of the two-volume Phantasms of the Living (1886) with Edmund Gurney and Frank Podmore which documented alleged sightings of apparitions.
