Here is an impossibly rare HTF collectible from June 1997, at the peak of Konishiki’s sumo career, issued as a thank you to special fans and supporters of the first non-Japanese sumo wrestler to be promoted –– in 1987 –– to Ozeki, paving a path for Yokozuna champions Musashimaru and Akebono. Samoan-American Konishiki started in Sumo in 1982 with Takasago Beya. This collectible is in the form of two large pogs with images of the 600+ pound sumotori along with tegata (handprint) images on each pog. It features Konishiki’s autograph, a gold seal from 1993 and is numbered 003679 of 10,000. From Koni Productions, June 1993, from Honolulu, Hawaii. Konishiki will be 60 years old this year! Hawaii is his home. The pogs are in near-mint condition; the certificate has slight age spots and a crease in the upper left corner. Sold as-is. Please see photos.
