Description: Antique Flemish tapestry in a hand made ornate gesso frame c 1917. Approx framed size 62 cm x 55 cm or 24 ¾” x 21 ½”, approx visible needlepoint size 45.5 cm x 38 cm or 18 ½ ” x 15 ”. This is a very beautiful and restful piece to enjoy for many years to come.BUY for the TAPESTRY or the FRAME or BOTH.Condition: Unexamined out of frame. Held behind glass the work is unaffected by sunlight discolouration and the image is clear and bright. Examination of the stitching shown no broken threads and there is evidence of thread twisting around corners indicating a degree of hand weaving.I suggest that the tapestry was framed circa 1917 judging by the date letter on the verso label. The frame is of superb quality being of ecru over gilt with hand applied gesso corner and border mouldings. It is in excellent condition showing only corner joint cracks as a result of being in a centrally heated home and a few edge chips.Bears the framers label of Chas. H. West, indicating a date between 1902-1960 and is a superb example of the framers craft.
