Description: Listed for auction is a stunning display containing a photograph signed by Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. The display is centered around two images, the first is the historic photograph of admiral Nimitz aboard the U.S.S. Missouri signing the instrument of surrender on August 15, 1945. The following is a signed formal military image of the admiral, the autograph is signed ''Fleet Admiral C.W. Nimitz U.S.N.'' in black fountain pen. The autograph is bold, uninscribed and displays very nicely. The photograph is a b/w, measures 5.50 x 4.00 inches and is in fine condition. The photograph was signed for a collector, included is the original letter addressed to the recipient dated 9 January 1961, acknowledging the signed photograph along with its original transmittal envelope. Mounted below is a professionally engraved plage, ''Admiral Chester W. Nimitz February 24, 1885 - February 20, 1966. Chester W. Nimitz was a fleet admiral of the United States Navy who played a key role in the naval history of World War II. Nimitz was called upon by President Franklin D. Roosevelt after the surprise attack on December 7, 1941, by Japanese forces on the naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Upon his arrival at Pearl Harbor, Nimitz relieved Admiral Husband E. Kimmel of his command and began rebuilding the Pacific Fleet. Under Nimitz's leadership, the U.S. Navy rebuilt and forced the surrender of the Japanese government at the historic surrender ceremony which was conducted aboard the U.S.S.
