Description: EXCELLENT OFFER FOR A RARE FIRST EDITION: THE BEST OF FLAIRHIGHLY SOUGHT BY ART AND STYLE INFLUENCERSEdited by Fleur Cowles with art direction by Federico Pallavicini, Flair is considered one of the most influential magazines of the 20th century. Few publications have had as big an impact on art direction, photography and style with so few issues: only 12 were published in 1950.In 1996 Harper Collins reproduced highlights from those rare 12 issues in a lavish hardcover book complete with the innovative die cuts, gatefolds, and mini-booklets Flair was known for. Published in a handsome cloth-covered clamshell box with a foreword by Dominick Dunne, The Best of Flair was regarded as one of the biggest publishing events of that year. This rare first edition is highly sought after by collectors and should not be confused with the Rizzoli revised edition released in 2014 without the clamshell case. This first edition sells on rare book sites for $450 and up. CONDITION: First edition in Very Good condition (see notes below)Note: I obtained this first edition in 1996 and have opened it perhaps five times since then. For the first year I owned it I kept it on a coffee table, hence the very small signs of wear on the corners of the clamshell and one corner of the hardcover dust jacket (see photos.) For this reason I describe the condition as "Very Good," though the pages within the hardcover are in nearly flawless condition. This includes the wonderfully unique die-cuts, gatefolds, and other bookmaking innovations that were a hallmark of the Flair style. The original vellum sheets protecting some of the pages are also intact.
