I've had this book for decades, and it was well-cared for, stored away virtually undisturbed in all that time. Before offering it for sale, I carefully took the time to eyeball each page to make sure there was nothing obvious hiding in there that might otherwise be missed. Here is the generally-accepted description of a VG comic book (as you can find on multiple online grading websites): 4.0 VERY GOOD (VG): The average used comic book. Cover shows moderate to significant wear, and may be loose but not completely detached. Cover reflectivity is low. Can have moderate creases or dimples. Corners may be blunted. Store stamps, name stamps, arrival dates, initials, etc. have no effect on this grade. Some discoloration, fading, foxing, and even minor soiling is allowed. As much as a 1/4" triangle can be missing out of the corner or edge; a missing 1/8" square is also acceptable. Only minor unobtrusive tape and other amateur repair allowed on otherwise high grade copies. Moderate spine roll may be present and/or a 1" spine split. Staples may be discolored. Minor to moderate staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as some rust migration. Paper is brown but not brittle. Minor to moderate interior tears may be present. Centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple. (I include this description so you can refer to it while following along with my observations below.) Surfaceflat copy that still has some residual shine (better than "low reflectivity" for sure), and actually pretty smooth to the touch overallEdge Wearany mere glance at the photos will show that the top edge of the cover (being slightly taller than the inner pages) is showing some cracking from folding inward. This is true on both front and back. But otherwise the edge wear is minor to moderate.Overall Wearthe book is worn, yes, but it has an overall feel of a book still above reader-levelFolds/Creasesbottom-right front corner shows small fold remnant, which is plain enough to see in the photosWrinklingthere's surprisingly almost no wrinkling on this copy -- it's almost completely smooth to the touchCornersblunted, and a small piece of that back lower-right corner is missing (easily seen)Printing DefectsnoneArrival StampsnoneSpineit's clear the book has been read a small handful of times, leaving behind the requisite color breaks and spine ticks, as you can see in the close-up, in-your-face side photos I provided. The solid black line that runs down its length helps highlight where the wear is. Worn? yes. But also still holding together.Spine RollnoneTears/Splits"minor to moderate staple tears" as indicated above is pretty apt here and plain enough to seeStaplesboth show some rust, but are otherwise solid and go all the way through to the centerfold, though I included a close-up of that page's lower staple which is starting to pull free -- I tested it gently to see if it was actually loose, and it still seemed to be hanging on. Even if it was detacted (and I don't think it quite is), the "centerfold may be loose or detached at one staple" description still holds here.Back covershows definite fading and not as white as it must have been all those decades ago. I already mentioned the bit of chipping on the top edge and the missing bottom-right corner piece, but if you zoom into the bottom edge, in the middle, you might notice a tear that measures 1/2 inch (better seen in photo of back inner cover)Smudgesholding the book up to the light, I note one on Ben's left hand on the front cover and another smaller one to the left of the "F" in the "Four" on title. Both are too faint to show in the photos -- they do appear when you hold it up to the light. Back doesn't seem to have spots that suddenly appear in the right, though there's some faint smudging to the upper-left of the coupon -- again, you have to hold the book up to really notice.Surface build-uplight coating on back cover, but no foxing that I can detectInner coversshow some fading -- I'd say this isn't quite Silver Age tanning, but definitely no longer white.Page colorstill off-whitePage conditionmostly good -- they don't appear brittle, and everything still seems attached, though like I said above, that centerfold page is just barely attached to the lower staple.BOTTOM LINEThis book has a bit of mileage on it, of course, as is easily seen in the photos, and it's definitely closer to a "reader" copy than even one slightly below mid-grade. I have a hard time saying it's a straight-up (and normally beat-up) VG copy, but I'll list it officially that way. If it weren't for the corner and little back tear, I'd have probably gone VG+. All quibbling aside, it's definitely a lower-grade copy -- no question about it -- so if that works for you, great. It certainly displays pretty well in its bag and board and is quite smooth. Where do you get more details or camera angles than what I've provided? ABSOLUTELY NOWHERE! Look at my feedback and you'll see "item as described" posted over and over again! I cannot believe other sellers expect you to make a purchase decision with just one or two photos -- ridiculous -- you always see what you're getting from me!
