PERENNIAL FLORIDA “Everglades” FRESH tomato seeds (1 of my full size plants growing in a 3 gallon pot had 147 of these delicious mini cherry sized tomatoes ON THE PLANT at 1 time!!) We are NOT A NURSERY - just passionate private suburban gardeners who adores these unbelievably SWEET little tomatoes & their willingness to grow & PRODUCE virtually anywhere. This incredibly happy Everglades Tomato is just perfect for any size Backyard Vegetable Garden. It grows in ground & can get like a shrub IF U LET IT. Or it can be left in any size pot 3 gal or larger preferred (in my opinion grows better, healthier & with even more production in south Florida) staked well in a pot— its a year round reliable grower at a size that u can completely control! (2 of these energetic plants & a family of 4 NEVER HAS TO BUY TOMATOES all season). Easy to grow: prefers dappled sun in south Florida. Up north can probably handle full sun. In summer they bear in partial shade when night temps stay under 75 & do need cover from the hot summer Florida sun. (We prefer morning sun for ours since we are in hot humid so Fla. - not all day blaring Florida heat sun), we also have a few in partial shade all day & they thrive. They do require water (especially when hot) & a add a bit of food & stand back! I put mine in 3 gallon buckets, add some crushed egg shells for calcium, a handful of used coffee grinds & good well draining quality potting mix & they could not be greener or happier, but I stake, if not, they ramble & do best when something props them up. Off ground. This super sweet mini cherry-sized tomato is so easy to grow, it's a perfect fit for beginner backyard vegetable gardens or condo patios. The Everglades tomato, also known as the currant tomato, will set dime-sized fruit in about 50 days. This is a cherry-type heirloom, with a sweet, real tomato taste. It is great for hot/humid climates. They grow in clusters of 8, about the size of a penny (half inch). These supposedly grow wild in the Florida Everglades. Local gardeners refer to it as “wild tomato.” Some claimed it is native to the area but the more likely story is that it had “escaped” into the Everglades and naturalized to that environment. While the fruit is small, the taste is tremendous. This "currant" tomato is indeterminate, and can grow to 12 feet or more. Don’t expect to see Everglades tomatoes in stores any time soon — their very thin skin and tender texture mean they don’t keep well once picked. But we go out daily and from two/three plants pick 20/30 a day when it’s not humid Planting; 1. Get a 3, 5 or 7-gallon pot (I use 3 gallon to contain growth) and fill about 1/2 way up with rich organic potting mixed with coarse sand or perlite for drainage. You may also add in a calcium supplement to mix into your soil. (I save egg shells & crush finely before adding to potting mix.) 2. Plant the seeds just at the depth of the seed (very shallow- NO DEEPER THAN 1/4” I just poke mine in & dust over with soil). Wild Florida Everglades tomato seeds will come up in about 7-10 days depending on warmth of soil. As they sprout, thin to 3-5 per pot or for 3 gallon I do just one. If you bury like seed pack tomatoes they generally will not come up. Just LIGHTLY COVER WATER IN & lightly tamp down. 3. As your sprouts get taller, I pinch off bottom sets of leaves & add more soil right up to their necks - just below the level of the top new leaves. Fill so only the top leaves are uncovered with soil. As your plants grow, continue to repeat these soil additions until you have reached 1-2 inches from the top edge of your pot. What you are doing is creating more soil for the stems to create super STRONG RIGOROUS roots. This way Along the entire depth of your pot your tomatoes are growing roots making this an incredibly well rooted plant able to draw nutrition from 6-8 inches of soil. 4. Feed with fish emulsion fertilizer and/or composted cow manure. You can mix in a little composted manure as part of your mix as you fill the pot. I also sprinkle coffee grinds in the soil. In about 50-60 days you will have many tasty cherry tomatoes. Pick and eat daily. Well cared for, these indeterminate vines will grow as much as 12-15 feet tall so expect to stake or trellis them for maximum fruit production. Start seeds on a window sill or greenhouse in Winter or Spring Transplant or direct sow in Spring or Early Summer up north after all danger of frost is past **** smoke & pesticide free home. Shipped within 24hrs of payment via USPS First Class with no tracking. If you want tracking we need to add $3. Gardeners by and large seem to be honorable people who understand karma — Last year only 6 envelopes out of 300 got lost. To me not worth the extra $3 to track, I send message when they are shipped (24hrs after payment except sun) & mostly it works. If u do want tracking my pleasure just message me & we’ll invoice the add’l cost.
