Description: Estate Pipes: Bob Ray USA, NC - Large Freehand, Smooth Finish. *stand not included. Hello, everyone. Today we are looking at a saddle bitted freehand carved by Bob Ray. Bob’s work is a type you don’t see too often. His pipes are big, heavy, and beautiful. They’re thick walled, and designed to last. I own a few of these myself, and I’m not even afraid to say they’ll outlive me. The man only sold his pipes through one small pipe shop up in North Carolina. That said, his pipes are few, but mighty. This pipe in particular is beautifully patterned, flame grained throughout the body of the pipe. The pipe is notably tall at 3.02”, the pipe is a bit weighty (71 grams) but as I said, these things are built like bulls. Weight is to be expected). The briar itself is quality. Very dense and weighty. So the pipe has a width of 1.88”,which is a sizable pipe width. The bowl of this pipe is 0.82” across and 2.75” deep. This is one of those bowls that stays smoking a while! So with a draught size of 0.30” and a magnum style stem, the draw on this pipe is easy and offers rich amounts of smoke. And my eyes always go to the stem, it’s a pearlized affair that is just incredibly eye catching. Heck of a pipe. Whichever one of you grabs it up, lucky you, it’s a champ. Guess that covers the appearance and specs, if you’ve got any other questions, just shoot em over. Thanks, E
