Sixteen short years later... Late evening on Wednesday March 31, 1976 we were parked on the Boonton Line at the Montclair, New Jersey station. The three of us watched ND-91 climb the hill at 9:30pm. Shortly afterwards, SC-8 came east dynamic braking down the grade. Then an hour later the grand finale began, amid much radio chatter between crew, yard forces, and DB Tower, NY-99 became the last EL freight to depart Croxton Yard in Jersey City. By the time this train reached its crew change at Scranton, Pennsylvania, the Erie Lackawanna would no longer exist. This book is that story. It is a chronological look at the EL's 16-year life through the camera lenses of my father, brother and I. It would be impossible in a volume this size to cover every facet of the Erie Lackawanna system. No attempt at that is made; this is simply the railroad as we saw it and remember it over the length of its 16-year existence.
