ECHOES 2005 Listen Up, It's CD New IF I DO Leaves LOVE NEVER DIES More Than Ever

Description: "LISTEN UP" It doesn't get any more original than "LISTEN UP... IT'S THE ECHOES" THE ECHOES' original, critically acclaimed 2005 release that took them from humble Northeast beginnings to being FEATURED ARTIST OF THE MONTH in West Coast music stores, as well as consecutive years by "SONGSTUFF" in the UNITED KINGDOM! Podcast by BRITCASTER, cybercast from famed New York nightclub CBGB, broadcast live on select radio stations... JUST "LISTEN UP" TO WHAT FANS AND CRITICS ARE SAYING: "Like a new wave Paul & Paula, [The Echoes'] minimalist approach is reminiscent of 60's music, not as primitive as the Wiggins sisters' group, The Shags, more like The Aquatones with treble guitar and a voice searching the stars up above. There are fifteen songs on the group's first full-length CD, "Listen Up It's The Echoes," the follow-up to the limited edition "The Echoes Sound Off," and they all have a charming appeal all their own... Their heartfelt approach can't be denied, "Cross Between The Two" a perfect love song for college radio. "When The Love" has Alexander experimenting with his guitar sounds while Teresa keeps her pop sensibilities about her... and the music she's singing. They are seriously adventurous and know how to find a groove. In a world of high-end explosions and music with nothing to say these new Echoes communicate their feelings well over a stripped down framework that Nuggets fans will eat up." -- Joe Viglione, ALL MEDIA GUIDE "Kentucky-bred and New York based, The Echoes are a twosome who have released "Listen Up... It's The Echoes," which is available at theechoesofficalwebsite. They sing in a folk style reminiscent of Ian & Sylvia, and give us all original tunes written by Mark Alexander, though most of the lead singing is (wisely) handled by Teresa Starr. The songs are full of love and tenderness, with Starr’s high voice and Alexander’s supporting guitar and voice (he does sing a lead here and there). This is definitely an easy listen on many levels, including a joyful melody line and a to-the-point lyrics structure (“I met you just the other day/You made it in my dreams that night” are the CD’s opening lines, from “If I Do”). This is the folk equivalent of lite jazz, and I don’t mean that as an insult; it’s a style that is very listener friendly. Like cocoa and a blanket on a chilly evening." -- Robert Barry Francos, JERSEY BEAT LISTEN UP, AMERICA, THE ECHOES HAVE ARRIVED! "I guess I'm among the privileged few to say I was aware of The Echoes long before most people. I caught them at a Turning Point show in Piermont, New York during the fall of 2000, then saw them at both the Sun Music Company in lower Manhattan and High Street Road House in Rye, New York around 2001. It was at a 2001 Orange Bear appearance in Tribecca that I picked up a three-song EP CD of the group titled "The Echoes Sound Off." While, granted, it was early Echoes, I thought to myself, "This is a group that's going to be something..." The next time I'd meet up with my new favorite act was at the Gallery in Ossining, New York circa 2002. Then, as they began to travel more for their music, I wasn't aware of them again 'til a friend told me he'd seen them at the C-Note in Alphabet City spring 2004. I managed to catch them live on the net when they played C.B.G.B.'s that fall--my belief still firm that this was a group that was going to be something... With the release of "Listen Up, It's The Echoes," I know this is a group that's going to be something! It's time to wake up, America, The Echoes have arrived!" -- Eli Josephs, AMAZON LISTEN UP -- SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW "The Echoes are one of the more extraordinary acts to come along in the rock world for a long period. Their sincerity and love of what they do is evident on this, their first major release. Both fans of country rock and folk rock alike can easily embrace this disc while fellow musicians can sit back and enjoy the simplicity of production that spotlights both lyrics, guitar parts and melodic basslines." "The disc opens with one of its rockingest numbers, "If I Do," and only rivals this rush of adrenalin on cuts "Love Never Dies," "When The Love" and "All That's On My Mind." The tunes that weave themselves in and out of this disc, after the usual rock is dismissed, are what make this release pure magic." "Never Wanna Let You Go" harkens back to the pre-Beatles sound of the great girl groups, while "More Than Ever" and "Leaves" completely floor the listener with the majesty of their words and the vocal delivery of singer Teresa Starr. Simple tunes along the lines of "Need A Little Romance," "From A To Z" and "After So Long Goodbye" round out the collection while never making one feel like hitting the skip button for the next track. This is very rare indeed during this day and age!" "Almost entering an acoustic set midway into the CD, with tracks "Wasting Our Lives," "Cross Between The Two" and "Dreamer," the Echoes rebound with production numbers "Starlight" and "Wish There Was Something To Say." All in all, a nicely paced CD and definitely an outstanding achievement as a debut." -- Geoff Hayes, AMAZON LISTEN UP -- WHAT A DEBUT! "What a debut! So far, The Echoes have only released two albums, but what a couple of albums they are! "Listen Up It's the Echoes," their first release, harkens back to the days of folk-rock and country-rock, with the group presenting an impressive selection of quality, original material, all of which was penned by Mark Alexander! Alexander's amazing "If I Do" should easily become a rock and roll classic, and "More Than Ever" beautifully exemplifies its composer's more sensitive, poetic side. Other stand-out tracks include the darker "Love Never Dies" and the insightful "When the Love." With the success of their first CD under their belts, the group commit something of an about-face on "Now Hear This," offering more powerful instrumentation and production on compositions "I Couldn't Stand," "Long as the Grass is Growing" and the hauntingly brilliant "Take Me as I Am!" As a Byrds' fan, I appreciate the folkier "Autumn Rain" and more bluegrass oriented "If I Could Take You Away," but can't deny the quality of all the recordings. No credits are given for group members other than songwriter Alexander and vocalist Teresa Starr, but The Echoes prove themselves to be extremely competent musicians on both releases. I eagerly await the group's next CD and foresee a long and prosperous career ahead of them!" -- Lover of the Bayou, AMAZON ECHOES "All rock and roll derives from a primary source and all great rock and roll acts reveal that source without appearing as mere imitations of their muse. So it is with such acts as the Beatles, Clapton, Dylan, and so on. The Echoes are no exception to the rule in holding forth with this tradition while failing to sound like cheap impersonations of their inspirations. They offer a Beatlesque bop in "After So Long Goodbye" and a Claptonian guitar on "From A To Z" with an overall Dylanish feel in lyrics such as "Cool breezes blow and the sunsets I know / Old rivers flow but who knows where they go?" or on cuts like "Love Never Dies" or the wistfully witty "Wish There Was Something To Say" with its Scandalous lope." "All of this is largely compliments of the sultry vocal stylings of female singer Teresa Starr coupled with the warm harmonies achieved by Starr and guitarist-songwriter Mark Alexander. The couple aurally glow on the tracks "If I Do," "Wasting Our Lives" and the anthemic "More Than Ever." In fact, the true rock and roll tradition presents tunes that sound familiar without permitting their listener to pinpoint exactly how? Such is the case with the latter track which is executed by a slow build up of instruments and almost Lennon-style backings. The Bruce Springsteen inspired blast of harmonica that heralds in "Dreamer" and the lush Spectorian instrumentation of Starr's first solo outing "Starlight" depicts an act well aware of and respectful to its predecessors." "The production is astounding in its simplicity and highlights each individual group member without an overabundance of effects save for the obvious echo that lends a more classic sound to the mix. The electric guitar breaks are sporadic while suggesting the influences of everyone from Chuck Berry to Jimmy Page. The rhythm section holds tight and keeps it together with delightful backbeats and melodious bass runs." "In summation, this is a strong offering of original material from an original group in a most unoriginal, almost aboriginal age. A pleasure to listen to from beginning to end!" -- Graham Milton, AMAZON WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE? "From the opening guitar riff to the closing drum crash, these guys know what they're doing: fifteen songs that, on a debut CD, sound like a "GREATEST HITS" compilation already (yes, they're that good)! Their words, their music, what they say, how they play... it's almost too good to be true. Whether you're eight years old or a hundred and eight, there ought to be something on this CD for you (and who else can you say that about besides a group like THE BEATLES)? We sure could stand to have more groups like this around; and I sure can't wait to hear what THE ECHOES are going to dish out next." -- Resonator, CD BABY And from the late, great TOWER RECORDS website come the following observations: "This CD is SWEET! Like a vintage bottle of wine, it opens beautifully and finishes smoothly. And what a ride it takes you on in between! From booming basses and driving drums to cascading keyboards, gutsy guitars and mournful harmonicas, it culminates into velvety-smooth lead vocals and hauntingly-hummable harmonies. The production is outstanding: a no-nonsense, back-to-the-basics, band in the studio (a la The Beatles aborted GET BACK project)! I caught this act when they played the northeast and have loved them ever since." -- Terry Jamison, TOWER RECORDS "Musically, this group covers the gamut (& effortlessly, I might add) from classic & country rock to folk & southern rock: welding it all together into one great, big, beautiful melting pot of music! Personal faves are "WHEN THE LOVE" & "AFTER SO LONG" for their slide guitar work & instrumentation, "IF I DO" & "LOVE NEVER DIES" for their originality (originality being one thing that's ALL TOO HARD to find nowdays), & "MORE THAN EVER" & "STARLIGHT" for the interesting directions they take & progressions they make!" -- Sweet Little Rock & Roller, TOWER RECORDS "LISTEN UP..."
