Description: This is an extremely fine early World War II U.S. M1 steel combat helmet with Hawley liner that is in excellent condition. The shell is with a front rim seam and fixed bales. It is marked with ‘73’ heat temper on the underside of the front brim. The chinstraps are light khaki colored webbing with bronze “J” hook fastener and catch at the ends. There is no fraying at the bales. The shell is with a nice anti-glare rough cork aggregate finish and without dents or damage. The ‘Third Pattern’ Hawley liner remains in excellent condition and complete with the original removable leather chinstrap and iron buckle. The OD khaki sweatband is in place and in excellent condition. There are no dents, cracks, or damage to the liner, just a single and insignificant area of wear in the material at the front rim as seen in the photos. This is a great-looking combat veteran with that desirable “been there” look to it. Helmets with Hawley liners in this condition are very scarce and seldom encountered. This one is a real gem that remains in excellent, undamaged condition.8643
