Description: SCARCE EARLY to MID 19TH CENTURY ENGLISH ANTIQUE HAND CARVED BIRD'S EYE, FIGURED MAPLE HARDWOOD PICTURE FRAME, with ORIGINAL GOLD GILT LINER, with HAND-CUT, MITERED CORNERS & NATURALLY DARKENED, LUSH, DEEP, AMBER, HONEY & CHESTNUT MEDALLION COLORS in HAND RUBBED, SLIGHTLY REFLECTIVE SATIN FINISH 22 ⅞" in LENGTH x 18 ⅛" in HEIGHT[Discovered in a rural country estate in southern Vermont in the Connecticut River Valley, north of Putney, VT. It was found without its original glass & chamfered backing board. It's nearly 175 to 200 years old & has minimal damage. It's estate fresh & was found as it's being presented. It's original distressed gold gilt interior liner is in good condition, with little noticeable gilt or gesso loss. The Bird's Eye Maple hardwood is hand carved & the picture frame has hand cut, original mitered corners. The figured maple has wonderfully oxidized, naturally darkened, deep honey, amber & chestnut colors, with nut brown medallions or 'eyes.' A nice sized, fairly large, 22 ⅞" in length x 18 ⅛" in height, late English Regency Bird's Eye Maple antique picture frame. From a time when decorating, even simply a print, mattered a great deal. An wonderful period, decorative artifact. Very handsome. Nice & big. It can be cut down to fit most size pictures or kept in its original size, with the image matted.
