Description: 2002 science fiction thriller Lathe of Heaven starring James Caan, Lukas Haas, Lisa Bonet, David Straithairn and directed by Philip Haas. Based on the novel by Ursula Le Guin. The Story: In a near-future society, a man claims that his dreams can change reality. His therapist is confused and skeptical at first, but soon decides to use this unusual ability for his own personal gain. Comments: Le Guin's tale of George Orr, a wretched young man with the power to alter reality by literally dreaming up a new one, is a good story with many layers. Director Haas explores these layers with a well-balanced cast and careful attention to the original story's main points. James Caan and Lukas Haas turn in great performances in this intelligent transfer to screen. Lisa Bonet substantially changes the character of 'Heather Lelache' but it works out quite well and makes for a much more satisfactory ending. Per the label, the film has 104-minute running time (the 'international edition') and is presented in widescreen letterbox format. The disc has English audio only with no subtitles. This movie-on-demand MOD archive title on recorded media is new and factory sealed. The DVD disc is Region 1, NTSC format, specifically designed to play on DVD players in North America. It will probably not play on a PlayStation or similar game device.
