Description: Dragon Armor - King Tiger - Henschel Turret No. 60551, Vintage year - 2012, Scale - 1:72 Unit - Unidentified Campaign - Berlin 1945 - The Battle of Berlin raged from 20 April to 2 May 1945. Battalions such as the sSSPzAbt. 503rd dug in amid Walther Mohnke's SS Leibstandarte infantry. By some accounts, heavy panzer battalion 503 had 10 King Tigers at this time. The unit joined in the breakout over the Havel River with the Muncheberg, 18th Panzergrenadier Division. The Havel River bridges became crucial life lines for both any help that could arrive from outside or escape of High Command from the city. Hitler Youth were also heavily involved in the fighting for Pichelsdorf Bridge as defense was largely a motley assortment at this stage. Heavy fighting broke out near the Westkreuz and Halensee train stations and on the Kurfurstendamm. By May 1 the division had been pushed back to the Tiergarten and was fighting to defend the Zoo Flak Tower. King Tiger 314, commanded by Georg Diers, survived until May 1 when it was destroyed by its crew at the Schonhauser Allee after hitting mines. Two of the last tanks from 503 (including Shafer's) survived until 2 May when they were destroyed during an attempt to break out of the Russian encirclement toward the Elbe (and reach the Allies to west to surrender). The Muncheberg's last operating panzer, a Tiger I, was abandoned on the Unter den Linden Strasse 100 meters from the Brandenburg Gate. Markings - Sand-yellow and red brown (with octopus pattern spots) ambush camouflage pattern. Many of these final King Tigers were new versions fresh from the factory and thus lacked any numbers or tactical markings. The Henschel turret eliminated the frontal shot trap of the original Porsche turret. Condition - new with minor wear on box. Thank you for your interest.
