You wait there until it pees or poohs, then you say "Good Puppy" several times and give it a puppy treat. Take the puppy back in the house and put it in the cage while again saying good puppy. This sounds cruel to some people and counterproductive to others, but it really works because the puppy feels safe in this cage. This is its spot in the world with its toys and food and water. So you do this every day for two weeks. Then you put the pup back in the cage after taking it out but you leave the door open. The puppy will be too timid probably to come out. Remember, it feels safe in there, and you say nice things to it when you put it in there. And in an hour you ask if it wants to go outside and you take it outside. You do this every day for two weeks. Then, while you are out behind the tree with your pup giving love and a scooby snack. have someone else remove the cage but leave the bed, the food and the water and toys where they were.The pup is going to be somewhat surprised by this, but it will go to the bed as if the cage were still there.
