This one is the latter. Candidissima matures at about 6 to 8 feet tall and has a loose, open, arching growth habit. The doubled flowers appear in late spring in the deep south and early to mid-summer in the colder zones. They appear as dense snow-white doubled, multi-petaled boughs of panicles at and near the ends of the branches. The plant is very showy, lush, and opulent. in full bloom and makes an excellent cut flower. This particular species of deutzia is fully deciduous in zones 5 to 7. It remains evergreen in Zones 8 and 9, but enters a resting phase through the winter months. Some literature sources do not rate it as hardy south of Zone 8 due to heat concerns. However, in our experience, it performs just fine in Zone 9.
