Description: Description: Decade of Champions - The Greatest Years in the History of Thoroughbred Racing - 1970-1980Patrick Robinson & Richard Stone Reeves This is a beautiful copy of the fine, limited edition of Reeve's & Robinson’s gorgeous book about thoroughbred racing in the 1970’s. Richard Stone Reeves is one of the most preeminent artists of horses. He has been painting thoroughbreds for decades and is highly esteemed for his care and ability to imbue his illustrations with each horse’s personality. Patrick Robinson is both a novelist and newspaper reporter as well as a horse racing enthusiast and has written several books about racing. The book explores the amazing decade of thoroughbred talent in the 1970’s, which included such celebrity horses as Seattle Slew and Secretariat. Great, entertaining writing! This is the first, limited edition of 2000 copies - this is number 92. It was published by Fine Arts Enterprises of New York in 1980 and has many amazing features. It is one of the nicest books I’ve ever handled. The covers are a fine brown leather with gold stamped spine and front cover. The paper is exceptionally thick and the printing and ink is bright and vibrant. There are three sewn in satin bookmarks. The marbled-style endpapers are sturdy and thick and there is a second set of endpapers with sweet horse vignettes in white ink on brown paper. There is gilding on all three edges. It is signed by both the author, Patrick Robinson and the artist, Richard Stone Reeves, on a special page that describes the details of this limited edition. The book is very large and measures about 12 x 15-1/2 inches and weighs over 6 pounds. It has 191 pages. I believe this edition did originally come with a clamshell case to house it in, although this is not present. Please note: there was a later trade edition published by Oxmoor Publishing and that is the edition seen fairly commonly on bookselling venues. It comes with a white dust jacket and is, of course, of a lesser quality. This is a separate, specially printed edition. Since we can only show 12 photographs here on eBay, please do contact me if you have any further questions about the condition or specifics of this item. This item comes from the estate of a San Francisco Bay Area woman who was active in the horse racing community for many years and raced her own thoroughbred horses. There are several fine items listed from this estate, including another of the Reeves/Robinson limited edition books. Condition: This copy is in beautiful condition. If it has ever been handled, there are virtually no signs of it. The pages are pristine with absolutely no blemishes. The colors are bright and vibrant. The binding is excellent and shows no evidence of being opened or wear on the leather. The leather covers are very good and the gold printing on the cover and spine is very good. The gilding on the page edges is virtually pristine. There is just the faintest bit of rubbing on a couple of the corners and one tiny set of scratches on the front cover. Truly, this is a beautiful copy. (Please see photos for details.) (Please be sure to look at the photos carefully for the details. More photos are available by request.) All items are wrapped and packed carefully in cardboard to ensure their safe arrival.____________________________________Okay, here are all those pesky little details: Payment:I ask that you pay within 3 days. If you are having an unexpected delay, just email me to let me know. Life happens, but communication can solve almost any confusion. I do combine postage on multiple items going to the same address. Just email me to let me know so I can send you a revised invoice with the adjusted postage.Nonpayment:I am a pretty easygoing person, but if I haven't either received payment within 3 days or heard from you, I have to assume you aren't planning on actually making the purchase. This means I'll have to follow eBay procedures for nonpayment of an item.Shipping:I always choose the least expensive form of shipping in order to save you money. The U.S. Post Office provides great service and their package tracking is free on all your purchases. However, sometimes speed is more important and I am happy to upgrade your shipping options if you can pay for the additional costs. If you contact me BEFORE payment, I am happy to set up alternative shipping methods, such as FedEx or UPS. I am an excellent packager and have a good supply of mostly recycled packaging supplies. I assure you I will take great care when I pack up your items. I've never had any damages yet! I go to the Post Office almost every day, so you can be sure that your item will be packed up and on its way to you either the same day or by the end of the next business day. Customer Service/Communication:Please remember, I have no control over the speed of the shipping once I drop your package off at the Post Office. I ship quickly on my end, but sometimes "stuff happens" during transit. I'm so sorry, but remember, it wasn't me. I personally hate it when I don't know what's going on with my online orders. Therefore I make sure to send you plenty of emails to let you know the details of your payments and the status of your shipment. Before you leave negative feedback, please email me first. I can usually figure out a solution to just about anything! And if you have any questions at all I am always happy to answer them.Returns:I want my customers to be happy with their purchases so I stand behind what I sell. If you are unhappy with your purchase within 30 days, you may return it; buyer pays postage. If I have made any errors in my description, I will pay the postage myself.Feedback:What makes eBay work is its feedback system. Please remember to leave honest and fair feedback promptly and I will do the same for you! Thanks for visiting The Occasional Something!Come again! _gsrx_vers_1292 (GS 8.3.6 (1292))
