Description: Curta calculator Type I No. 70254 with case, box, documents and sales receipt. Instrument: Very good condition. Fully operable, very smooth. Tested for basic arithmetic functions. All metal parts except base show no wear. On the base the last digit of the serial number is slightly marred and a slight ring is visible. Case: Very good condition. Very slight scuffing, no scratches. Includes original foam interior padding. Box: Box is creased and water stained. Matching serial number on lid and stamped "Grady" - original owners name - see history below. Documentation: "Your Curta Calculator" poster and "Computing examples" booklet. Both in very good condition, curled due to original packaging wrapped around instrument. History: Per curtamania.com this was produced in April 1968. The unit was purchased by T. Grady in Saigon, South Vietnam. Per the included sales receipt the unit was purchased on 11 November 1968 for 11,209 piastres. This appears to be well under the U.S list price of the time of $125. The receipt includes three revenue stamps. T Grady was a helicopter pilot who served a tour in Vietnam with the U.S Army in an airborne division from around 1966-1968, then joined Air America shortly before purchasing this unit. He remained with Air America in Laos and Vietnam until the fall of Saigon in 1975.
