(2 Digitally Remastered, 32 tracks on 2 CD's) Editorial ReviewsFor the first time ever, audio highlights from the festival will also be released on CD and Digitally Remastered, featuring 32 tracks. In addition to rousing performances of blues classics and renowned hit songs, many of the most memorable performances saw artists coming together for some stirring collaborations. Among the highlights were the surprise pairing of John Mayer and Keith Urban for the Beatles' "Don't Let Me Down," Vince Gill and Clapton taking on "Lay Down Sally," Keb Mo and Taj Mahal covering the Sleepy John Estes' song, "Diving Duck Blues," Gill performing "Tumbling Dice" with Urban and Albert Lee and members of the Allman Brothers - Gregg Allman, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks - joined forces for a haunting acoustic cover of Neil Young's "The Needle and the Damage Done." As you would expect, Clapton features prominently throughout the show, including with his own band for "Tears In Heaven." The legendary guitarist also tore through the Derek and the Dominos' classic "Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad" with the Allman Brothers Band, revisiting the time in 2009 when he joined the band during their annual residency at the Beacon Theater in New York. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ THE ROLLING STONE REVIEW :In April of this year Eric Clapton staged his fourth Crossroads Guitar Festival over back-to-back days at Madison Square Garden, marking the first time the all-star benefit (in support of the Crossroads Centre at Antigua) was held in New York City. In another first, while all four festivals to date (including preceding ones from Dallas and twice from Chicago) are documented on assorted video formats, Crossroads 2013 is also chronicled on a double-disc live album. Having serious musical chops is no doubt the prime prerequisite to receiving Clapton’s invitation to this event. Yet even the most proficient artists seem to have upped their game when it came time to play, yielding standout performances from the likes of Gary Clark, Jr. (“When My Train Pulls In”), John Mayer and Keith Urban covering The Beatles (“Don’t Let Me Down”), and the Allman Brothers Band, Warren Hayes, and Derek Trucks covering Neil Young (“The Needle and the Damage Done”). Clapton seems to have upped his game as well, whether in shuffling cool through “Lay Down Sally” with Vince Gill or undulating the blues of “Key to the Highway” with Keith Richards. He summons his most potent moments, though, on Derek & The Dominoes classics “Got to Get Better in a Little While” and “Why Does Love Got to Be So Sad,” the latter with the Allmans. On the whole, it’s a wonder that past Crossroads Festivals haven’t found their way onto live albums such as this, but Crossroads 2013 nevertheless has made for a most enjoyable one. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ TRUE 5 STAR REVIEWS : More of What You Already Love ~ A MUST HAVE 2 DISC SET ! I have been a fan of Eric Clapton since the 60's and I have been to at least a dozen concerts where he performed. I have attended the Guitar Festival here in Boston several years ago and loved every minute of it. I had terrible seats but that faded away as the music filled the ginormous stadium and I melted into the music. It was a magical night, one which I will never forget. Then, as a gift (to myself) I received this set; the 2013 festival CD's and I was blown away. If you like how Eric Clapton shares the stage with other amazing musicians, guitar players specifically, you will love this set. The recording features Buddy Guy who rips it up with "Damn Right, I've Got the Blues" to John Mayer with his performance "Queen of California" and Don't Let me Down". I ever realized he was such an amazing guitar player! Then Sonny Landreth, Doyle Bramhall and Jimmy Vaughan along with Jeff Beck and Los Lobos add to the second CD what could not have ever fit on the 1st. This is an epic performance in every respect, one that I have listened to over and over again. If you like the blues, if you like electric guitar music and if you like Eric Clapton, this is a "gotta have" purchase. Down At The Crossroads,..... it's a No Brainer ! I'm a big fan of Eric Clapton and would recommend anything that has his name associated with it! That is my first interest in this release, the second is that Gary Clark Jr. is playing on it and he's worth a listen.I highly recommend this 2 disc set, all the music is well played and well recorded. It is live, but it doesn't detract from the end product!! It's good enough to me that I'm hoping to eventually get the DVD as well. Many fabulous artists of Blues, Rock and Country...which reminds me of one song in particular...Vince Gill along with Albert Lee do a fantastic rendition of Ol' Waylon's "I Ain't Living Long Like This"...but, I'm a Waylon fanatic, so maybe I'm a little biased.Pick it up, it's worth the price of admission !
