Cobra 2000 GTL CB Radio Base Station Fully Tested With Speaker And Astatic D-104

Description: (Read this entire description BEFORE YOU BUY this machine, know what you are getting!) This very clean and tested Cobra 2000 GTL CB base station radio is a recent acquisition from an absolutely massive CB and HAM operators estate collection of over 40 radios and amplifiers. This system has been fully tested using a properly tuned CB base antenna and found to transmit and receive signals on AM and USB/LSB. The only two issues found during the inspection is that there is a stuck RF power meter, this is likely an easy fix but I have not tried to repair it. The transmit also sounds weak compared to my other radios, even though it puts out a lot of watts. Two microphones were tested, a crystal D-104 amplified mic with the power adjustment as found, and a modern electret condenser mic as well. The performance of the radio was very similar on both mics, meaning that there is a potential problem with the transmitter. Another possibility is that the modulation level is low. I do use CB radios but I am not an expert on how they work or repairing them. It is unknown how much work or modifications were done to the main unit, but I know that the red switch on the bottom is not original due to it not being present on other examples of this machine. Everything else on this unit has been tested and confirmed to work very well. The cosmetic condition of this system is excellent, all items connected to the radio in the photos are included and in excellent shape. The cosmetic condition of the base station and the included original speaker is excellent, with no large or deep scratches, veneer peeling or dents in the wood cases on either unit. The front of the speaker is in near mint condition, however there is some wear from regular use on the front panel as detailed in the photos. The cover was carefully removed to reveal the circuit boards and they look extremely clean, I didn’t even have to dust them. All rubber feet are present on the cases. The Astatic D-104 microphone is in excellent shape, but it is unmarked, I do not know what model variant it is. The watt meter appears to work well for wattage and modulation, but compared to my other external meters the SWR reading is always higher than it really is. The condition of the capacitors in this unit are not guaranteed due to the age of the system, it is unknown whether they are due for replacement. The radio you see with the accessories attached is the exact one you will receive. Due to the age of the unit and parts swappers that change components, there are no returns or refunds unless a major problem fatal to the functionality of the system has not been described at the time of sale.
