Description: RailroadTreasures offers the following item: Classic Car Buyers Guide 1996-1997 Details & Photographs 1050 models 1946-1976 Classic Car Buyers Guide 1996-1997 Details & Photographs of 1050 models from 1945-1976 Soft Cover Copyright 1996 240 Pages This buyer's guide is intended to provide an overview of what is available in the world of classic cars, what to expect from particular models, and how much to pay. We have tried to mingle historical perspective with practical advice, and to combine the passion and pleasure of classic cars with the hard facts which cannot be ignored. Like most objects of value, the classic car is subject to the whims of supply and demand and is prey to fluctuating values. However, the classic car world is not the chaotic world it used to be. The speculative side of the market has well and truly settled down after the notorious price bubble of the late 1980s, but the level of interest remains strong. Fixing values has never been more realistic than at present. Naturally there are boundaries. We have tried to include every major British and European car built from 1945 up until 20 years ago (ie. 1976). Sadly, this cannot include every one of the hundreds of eligible specialists, although the most historically significant and interesting to the collector are listed. Our most severe limits apply to American and Japanese cars. Generally these are confined to the most interesting examples to (admittedly distorted) European eyes. When you realise that Toyota made over 60 variants of the Corolla in just one model year in the mid-1970s, you appreciate the enormity of the problem, especially as no-one really cares for '70s Corollas. Japanese inclusions are almost invariably the most interesting of those imported to Britain, plus others which are of historic or contextual significance. Naturally there will be controversy over our selections in some cases, but we have aimed for the widest possible spread given the limitations of space. Likewise, the spread of American cars is tremendously diverse and far too wide for this publication. But the availability of American cars has become very good if you are prepared to look abroad and we have attempted to include some of the more interesting choices. Further exclusions are commercial vehicles, cars converted by specialists, invalid carriages and models which are known to be effectively extinct. All pictures are of the actual item.
