Description: This is a beautiful Civil War ‘Burnside’ eagle breast plate for the .58 caliber cartridge box sling that is in perfect non dug condition. The face is an attractive chocolate brown age toned patina and the rim is without any dents or bruising. The eagle clutches the ‘fishhook’ in its left talon. This plate measures 2¼ inches in diameter as opposed to the regular 2½ inch eagle plate. It retains both iron eyelets which are 1⅞ inches apart, straight, strong, and firmly attached. The lead filling on the back side of the plate is 100% intact. There is not the first hint of damage to this plate, and it remains in an excellent state of preservation. You would have to look long and hard to find a better example of this scarce plate. It is shown next to a regulation size eagle breast plate for size comparison only and is not included in this sale. The price is just for the ‘Burnside’ plate. A superb looking plate that displays beautifully.8816
