Description: For sale is a Circa 1850’s O/C Portrait of young shepherdess with crook Attributed To Thomas Sully (1783 - 1872) This painting is a restoration project. The painting depicts a beautiful young shepherdess with her wooden crook. She wears a wide hat over her long brown hair with curlicue ends as she gazes at the viewer over her left shoulder in a very lovely and warm stare. The painting being on a period canvas and wooden stretcher. The painting having been removed from a painted wood frame which was deteriorating. The painting needs a gold gilt Sully style frame or a reeded deep cove picture frame with a fanciful adorned spandrel to show her at her best. The painting clearly needing professional restoration. Areas of paint and gesso loss with raw canvas exposure. Over all very dirty and in need of a cleaning. Having been edge lined at some point long ago. Areas of unstable surface. Unsure if the gold painted corners are original to the painting. Needs to be relined to bring it back to life. Well worth it.
