Chicago 1934 World’s Fair – “Tour The World” Vintage Poster

Description: These are simply the best posters available…you will be thrilled with the image quality, vivid colors, fine paper, and unique subjects! OUR POSTERS ARE SIZED FOR STANDARD OFF-THE-SHELF FRAMES, WITH NO CUSTOM FRAMING REQUIRED, PROVIDING HUGE COST SAVINGS! This beautiful reproduction poster has been re-mastered from an advertisement for the 1934 Chicago World’s Fair, by commercial artist Weimer Pursell. The advertisement encouraged tourists to tour the “Tour the World at the Fair” and “see the 15 foreign villages” constructed for the exhibit. The fair ran from 1933 to 1934, and was also a celebration of Chicago’s 100th birthday. The vibrant colors and detail of this classic image have been painstakingly brought back to life to preserve a great piece of history. The high-resolution image is printed on heavy archival photo paper, on a large-format, professional giclée process printer. The poster is shipped in a rigid cardboard tube, and is ready for framing. The 13"x19" and 24”x36” formats are excellent image sizes that look great as a stand-alone piece of art, or as a grouped visual statement. These posters require no cutting, trimming, or custom framing, and a wide variety of these frames are readily available at your local craft or hobby retailer, and online. The 24”x36” poster has a 1” white border. A great vintage print for your home, shop, or business! THE 1933-34 CHICAGO WORLD’S FAIR & ARTIST WEIMER PURSELL WEIMER PURSELL (1906-1974) Renowned commercial artist Gilbert Weimer Pursell was a Tennessee native who studied at the Chicago Art Institute, and worked as an illustrator for "Esquire," "Life," "Forbes," and other magazines. Pursell also created posters for corporate clients, including Standard Oil and Coca-Cola. After the war he chaired the Department of Art at the University of Tennessee. 1933-34 CHICAGO WORLD’S FAIR A Century of Progress International Exposition, also known as the Chicago World's Fair, was a World's Fair held in the city of Chicago, Illinois, United States from 1933 to 1934. The fair, registered under the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), celebrated the city's centennial. The theme of the fair was technological innovation, and its motto was "Science Finds, Industry Applies, Man Adapts", giving out a message that science and American life were wedded. Its architectural symbol was the Sky Ride, a transporter bridge perpendicular to the shore on which one could ride from one side of the fair to the other. One description of the fair noted that the world, "then still mired in the malaise of the Great Depression, could glimpse a happier not-too-distant future, all driven by innovation in science and technology." Fair visitors saw the latest wonders in rail travel, automobiles, architecture and cigarette-smoking robots. The exposition "emphasized technology and progress, a utopia, or perfect world, founded on democracy and manufacturing."
