Stapled paper wraps. 6" x 9" 64 pages plus the covers. Map of Concord printed on inside of the front cover. ( Streets , Fitchburg Railroad , Boston - Maine Railroad , locations of historic buildings , Assabet River , etc. ) Over 100 years old and quite scarce. A tour of historic buildings and places in Concord , Massachusetts and vicinity ( Bedford , Lexington , Boston , etc. ). Description , Colonial America history , etc. Over 70 illustrations. Views of historic places , colonial homes , portraits , 8 members of the Boston Tea Party , old artifacts , etc. Some are full-page. Includes Ralph Waldo Emerson , a view of the Alcott - Thoreau house ( the house in which Henry David Thoreau died in 1862 ), the home of Nathaniel Hawthorne , the house in which Hawthorne wrote " Mosses from an Old Manse ," the famous " Wayside Inn " of Longfellow ( Howe Tavern - in which the story of " The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere " was told ), the ancient Oak Tree at the " Wayside Inn ," etc., etc. ------- " To The Reader - This book is designed as a handbook or guide to those people who intend to visit the historic and literary fields of Concord .." " ( it ) contains illustrations of many historic places in the vicinity of Concord, Boston and other sections of the state, and also of relics of great antiquity, which must be of interest to the general reader. The views have been selected with much care and will be found exact reproductions of nature, or counterparts of the handicraft of our forefathers a century or more ago. In the future it will prove a pleasant reminder of your visit to these historic scenes, and a handy book of reference." --------- The last illustration in this book is a drawing of the tomb of John Eliot ( ca. 1604 - May 21, 1690 ), Puritan missionary to the American Indians , "the apostle to the Indians ", and the founder of Roxbury , Massachusetts. On the rear cover is illustrations of Union Station ( Boston ) - Boston & Maine Fitchburg Railroad , exterior and interior views. " Concord and towns about this historical locality may be reached by taking cars at this station ." ----------- Condition. Heavily worn binding. The card-stock covers are detached and heavily worn, with loss at the edges. The paper covering the spine is perished. The rear cover has a horizontal tear which has been carefully repaired ( closed with a little glue ). ( see the photos ) The pages remain well attached ( stapled ) and complete. Aging of the paper, a little wear to the first page. Otherwise good. Quite scarce. Carefully packed for shipment to the buyer.
