Description: C1720 PAIR 18thC JAPANESE EDO KO-SOMETSUKE BLUE AND WHITE PORCELAIN KAISEKI DISH Description:A pair of antique Japanese 'ko-sometsuke' (old blue and white) porcelain Kaiseki dishes, dating to the early 18th Century Edo period (1603-1867), circa 1700-1730.The dishes are hand painted in underglaze blue with a boy holding an umbrella for a scholarly man, within a rocky waterside landscape. The outer rim is finished with a cafe au lait glaze outside a double ring in blue. The underside is undecorated, with a raised unglazed foot rim.Kaiseki are used during the formal tea ceremony to serve food.
