KEYWORDS: Observer's Book, Series, Wild Animals, Great Britain, Field Guide, DESCRIPTION: From the description: About the Book In recent times there has been an almost revolutionary switch towards interest in mammals and also towards the study of reptiles and amphibians. Some of them are scarce and many are mainly active at night, seen more often in the headlights of a car than by any other means. It is on this account that looking out for wild animals can be more rewarding than studying birds, which are more readily seen. This book by Maurice Burton, the well-known naturalist, gives not only details of generally known species of wild animals, but describes others which have been introduced into the country within the last hundred years. The book is profusely illustrated with full colour and half-tone illustrations. About the Author After graduating at London University, Dr Maurice Burton spent two years in research. He became a biology master before entering the British Museum (Natural History) from which he has now retired. An early ambition to be an author led to his writing extensively first for the West Sussex Gazette, then for the Illustrated London News and also the Daily Telegraph. He has contributed to other magazines, in addition to publishing some 80 books on natural history. For 40 years he lectured regularly to local natural history. For 40 years he lectured regularly to local societies and has taken part in numerous broadcasts on radio and television. Observer's Series Number 5.
