Description: ATH#220657.03 6 ¾” Overall Height Antique Bronze Head of Buddha formerly atop a statue from the Golden Triangle of Southeast Asia (Laos, Thailand and Burma) Rattanakosin Period c.1900 A lovely cast brass fragmentary head portion of a Buddha sculpture, with a calm visage. His eyes are cast downwards under large lids and softly arched brows, and a slender nose and slightly smiling lips complete his tranquil expression. His ears are adorned with sizeable earrings that elongate his earlobes, and his head is covered by the flaming ushnisha headdress crown with frontal flanges. This is a common presentation of Buddha from the period. Overall height is 6 ¾”, including the 2 ¼” Tall wooden base (which is 2” square) Excellent Condition with no dings or scrapes BUT THERE IS damage at the base of the neck – corrosion from the years – this was part of a statue and the statue was damaged and corroded and this head was removed and placed on the wood stand. There were ten of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of these statues in all the homes of SE Asia – every home had multiple images of Buddha – so for a local artisan to recover an old statue from the earth and ”revive” it by using a wooden pedestal was an easy consideration.
