This switch is normally open when the lever is compressed against the spring pressure of the switch. Spring pressure in the switch causes the circuit to close when you step on the brake lighting the brake lights. This switch is normally mounted on the firewall or floorboard of the vehicle. The lever is compressed by the brake pedal against the spring pressure (down in the above picture ) to Open the Circuit (turn brake lights off). When you step on the brake pedal the lever is moved up by the spring pressure to Close the Circuit turning the brake lights on. Mounting holes are taped for two 10-32 screws.
