Description: Boosey & Hawkes Elkhart Bb Clarinet. A Boosey & Hawkes Edgeware Bb Clarinet was made and designed as a solid intermediate to early advanced level instrument. The model was made from the 1950’s until the 1970’s. Made of Grenadian wood and finished with nickel plated keys. The Edgeware Bb Clarinet has a nice rich, open, and homogeneous sound. Many consider Boosey & Hawkes clarinet under priced and a great value for the money. Today, Edgeware Clarinets in good shape can sell for well over $400. This Boosey & Hawkes clarinet was the first clarinet I purchased ten years ago when I began playing again. I immediately fell in love with the powerful upper range and the dark, rich tones of the lower register. The influence of Grenadilla wood on the instruments resonance just can’t be matched. I recall having the clarinet serviced at least once, maybe twice over the last ten years. This instrument would be an excellent choice for an intermediate or advanced level student. It would make a beautiful primary instrument or a rich, powerful secondary instrument. Given that the instrument is around 75 years old, special considerations must be made in regard to the care of the instrument. There is NO Mouthpiece included. In spite of the care given to this classic instrument, it does show wear that is indicative of a 75 year old instrument. Even still, it is a beautiful instrument.
