Description: This listing is for the hardcover book "Jewish Book-Plates Ex Libris by A.M. Haberman. This was published by the Museum of Printing Art in Safed (Tzfat), Israel. There are 165 beautifully reproduced bookplates in this 146-page book that measures 6 3/8" x 9 5/8". There is no date in this book, but it appears to be from the early 1970s. The text of this book is in English and Hebrew. From the dust jacket: Jewish bookplates are known to us only from the end of the 18th century, and the names are included in emblems. Over the years such Jewish bookplates have become steadily more numerous and variegated. Some of them are true works of art. The collection presented here, which is the first of its kind, includes a large number of Jewish signatures and bookplates of all varieties. Family or professional emblems, pictures illustrating the name of the owner, artistic drawings, specimens of folk art, sentences from the Bible, proverbs, etc. Condition: The inside pages are in excellent condition and appear to have been barely flipped through by past owners. The dust jacket has some small tears. There is a bookplate for a former owner as well as an inscription on the first page. Please see the photos for more detail. Money-back guarantee.
