Description: The Snap-On Wrench Company was founded in 1920 by Joseph Johnson and William Seidemann. Initially, Snap-On manufactured interchangeable socket tools which they marketed as being superior over fixed socket wrenches. From a modest beginning the company became well known and highly respected as a manufacturer of quality tools. It was not until 1923 that Snap-On began to add other styles of Wrenches. In 1923 the Blue Point Tool Company was formed to produce other styles. Initially, Blue Point relied on outside contractors to produce tools to its specifications with Forged Steel Products Company and Milwaukee Tool & Forge being their primary sources. As automobiles grew in importance and technology advanced in other fields the need for smaller Wrenches grew. In 1941 the C-1618 Ignition Wrench appeared in the “Snap-on Wrenches: Blue Point Mechanics' Tools: Catalog R” where it was described as being for; “tricky ignition, carburetor, radio, and electrical jobs where it takes tiny, short handled tools to do the trick.” (https://archive.org/details/snapontoolscatalogr1946/page/n31/mode/2up?view=theater). In that 1941 Catalog an adjustment was made to “C” Model Ignition Wrenches. The C-1618 and the newly added C-1816 were “Made in pairs with two different sizes on each wrench . . . each size duplicated on a separate handle at a different angle.” Do we wish we had a C-1816 to offer? Yep! The “C” Model Wrenches remained in Catalogs until the mid-1950s. In the 1954 Catalog the comparable Wrench had a “DS” prefix. The Wrench has lost some plating. There’s no evidence of abuse or misuse and no previous-owner-markings. It’s lost none of its ability to “do the trick” even after more than a half a century.
