Bio Billy Murray (1877-1954) was probably the most popular recording artist of the acoustic era. Edison released Murray cylinders in 1903. Murray started recording fairly regularly at that time, first for Edison, and then for Columbia and Victor. Murray's voice was well suited for acoustic recording. He sounded natural while singing loudly into the recording horn used in the acoustic recording process. When electrical recording became the standard in 1925, Murray had to adjust. He had to sing more quietly to avoid overdriving the microphones and amplifiers. The public's tastes in music were also changing (largely due to the influence of jazz), and Murray's popularity declined rapidly at this point. In the thirties, Murray recorded only sporadically. He performed on radio, and provided voices for a couple of cartoons. In the forties, he performed on the National Barn Dance radio show. He made his last record in 1943 for the Victor Bluebird label. This CD includes many of Billy Murray’s comic recordings made during the Ragtime Era . The period covered by this CD is 1913 to 1916. He is joined by Ada Jones and Irving Kaufman on several tracks. 13- THE LITTLE FORD RAMBLED RIGHT ALONG Victor 17755 RECORDED 1915 14- IF WAR IS WHAT SHERMAN SAID IT WAS VICTOR 17826 RECORDED 1916 Your browser does not support the audio element. 15- THER MUST BE LITTLE CUPIDS IN THE BRINY VICTOR 17855 RECORDED 1916 16- I’VE BEEN FLOATING DOWN THE OLD GREEN RIVER VICTOR 17885 RECORDED 1916 17- BALLYMONEY VICTOR 17885 RECORDED 1916 18- WHAT’S THE USE OF GOING HOME VICTOR 17926 RECORDED 1916 WITH IRVING KAUFMAN 19- ARE YOU FROM DIXIE VICTOR 17942 RECORDED 1916 WITH IRVING KAUFMAN 20- WAY DOWN IN ARKANSAS VICTOR 17969 RECORDED 1916 WITH IRVING KAUFMAN 21- YOU CAN’T GET ALONG WITH ’EM OR WITHOUT ‘EM VICTOR 18031 RECORDED 1916 22- WHICH SWITCH IS THE SWITCH MISS FOR IPSWICH VICTOR 18031 RECORDED 1916 23- SIMPLE MELODY VICTOR 18051 RECORDED 1916 WITH EDNA BROWN 24- I SENT MY WIFE TO THE 1000 ISLES TODAY VICTOR 18073 RECORDED 1916
