Description: Passing Gas got him a pass....to jail! This large size 1921 multi-color Notgeld banknote commemorates the world's first recorded arrest for farting in public, which took place in 1906. It seems that a certain fellow, the local coppersmith, could not restrain himself from passing gas - loudly and often - in the public square. As a result, the constantable took him into custody and he was charged with public flatlulence! The story spread far and wide, even hitting the newspapers (copy of one such actual article attached!!!). The local municipality took perverse pride in the matter by commemorating the event on this very piece of Notgeld - in full color! - accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek poem. Sure enough, the banknote gained notoriety (and collectibility) all on its own thanks to the unexpected publicity. Which goes to show, there's no thing such as stooping (or pooping) too low when it comes to tabloid journalism - or money printing! Starry night, smiling full moon, light shines from the windows on the square. The smirking coppersmith lets one loose. The townspeople grimace and hold their noses. The corpulent copper moves in and the coppersmith is cuffed. The rest is hilarity. Over 3" x 5", full color, choice crisp uncirculated.
