Here is what it said in the newspaper at the time.Mrs. William Henry Sullivan Jr. of 10 Scarsdale Avenue was elected to a three - year term as president general of the Daughters of the American Revolution last Thursday in Washington, D.C., and became a grandmother for the second time on Monday. As of Tuesday evening it was difficult to tell which event excited her more. A member of Scarsdaleās Harvey Birch Chapter, NSDAR, Mrs. Sullivan announced her candidacy for the national post last year. She and 11 other officers, who had campaigned with her, were inducted on Friday. Delegates from all parts of the nation attending the 74th Continental Congress were present at the ceremony. Mrs. Sullivan has served the organization as recorder general and first vice president general on the national level and as vice regent and regent of New York State. From 1953 through 1962 she was on the National Board of Management. Born Adele Woodhouse in Trenton, N.J., Mrs. Sullivan is the descendant of early colonial Pennsylvania settlers. She was the wife of Harld E. Erb of Garden City until his death in 1959. The following year she married Mr. Sullivan, an electrical engineer. Mrs. Joseph P. Thorne, also a member of the DAR. of Norwalk, Conn., is Mrs. Sullivan's only child. The new president general now has two granddaugnters. Betsy, 6, a member of the Children of the American Revolution, and the infant born on Monday. Since she expects to spend a great deal of time in Washington during this DAR diamond anniversary year, Mrs. Sullivan has rented an apartment there.
