Description: OFFERED HERE is one of the most remarkable gambling books we have seen. From 1962, Beat the Dealer: A Winning Strategy for the Game of Twenty-One, by Edward O. Thorp, Ph.D. Published by Random House, New York. Sized 8x5 inches, 237 pages, bound in dark green cloth, gilt titles. What makes this book interesting is that it was clearly used in casinos to beat the dealers at 21. Inside the book there is a pocket at the rear featuring 4 little cards with cheat sheet type information on what to do in all contingencies. These are original to the book. There is also a folded document, with an ad for Charlie Chester Casino, London, open 24 hours a day, offering advice for 21 gamblers. And several other such documents. We see a penciled owner name, Al Hauser, probably the gambler who used this book in the casinos. He has left some inked inscriptions inside. As the game of Twenty-One has not changed since this book was published, one could still use it to beat the dealer.
